cataloglatchCATALOG OPERATIONS
THE WORKFLOW / VERSION 1

A clear path from supplier list
to reviewed price update.

CatalogLatch works with native Shopify product CSV exports and a supplier file containing SKU plus selling price or unit cost. It supports current and legacy Shopify headers. All catalog processing happens in your browser.

1. Start with fresh source files

  1. Export products from Shopify. Keep the complete variant groups, Title, handle, SKU and all option name/value columns. Save an untouched copy.
  2. Export the supplier list as UTF-8 CSV. Keep SKUs as text so 00042 stays different from 42. Comma, semicolon and tab separators are accepted.
  3. Load both files. The workspace rejects malformed quoting, duplicate headers and uneven record widths. It reports unsupported or risky values instead of silently replacing them.

2. Define the update

Choose the supplier SKU column and either the supplier’s selling price or its unit cost. Matching is exact and case-sensitive. Duplicate SKU matches on either side are skipped. Unmatched rows are reported; they never create new products.

For cost-based pricing, choose the target product gross margin, extra unit cost and upward rounding. For example, a cost of 12 plus 3 in extra unit costs with a target margin of 40% produces a price of 25 before optional upward rounding: 15 ÷ (1 − 0.40) = 25.

Gross margin is not markup or net profit.

Use a consistent currency and tax basis. Taxes, payment fees, shipping and returns are excluded unless included in your extra unit cost. If you enable cost updates, Cost per item receives only the supplier cost; the extra cost affects the suggested selling price.

3. Review the exceptions and changes

Price decreases and changes over the selected threshold are held back by default. You can explicitly include them for review. A proposed zero selling price is always skipped. Check every before/after value and deselect any SKU you want to keep unchanged.

4. Export the review package

FilePurpose
01-price-update.csvThe only file intended for Shopify import. Includes identity fields and prices for all variants of every changed product, plus costs if selected. Inventory, images, descriptions and unrelated columns are omitted.
02-changes.csvEvery selected cell change with record, SKU, before and after values.
03-exceptions.csvSkipped, unmatched and review findings.
04-original-UNCHANGED.csvYour original catalog text, unchanged.
05-supplier-UNCHANGED.csvYour original supplier file, unchanged.
READ-ME.txtScope, assumptions and the import checklist.

Audit CSVs escape formula-like prefixes for spreadsheet safety. Source files and import values preserve raw data; use a text import when opening them in spreadsheets. Only explicitly selected updates change prices or costs. Product metadata can be carried forward onto the first variant row where required to retain the group’s identity.

5. Test inside Shopify

  1. Review the generated price update. Start with a small selection of complete products.
  2. In Shopify, import the update using overwrite for matching handles. Read Shopify’s preview before confirming.
  3. Inspect prices, options and variant IDs after the small import. Store-specific apps and linked options may introduce requirements a local CSV cannot verify.
  4. After that check passes, apply the remaining reviewed changes using a fresh source export if the store changed in the meantime.

Supported checks and boundaries

Checks include required native-export columns, option identities, repeated option combinations, duplicate SKUs, numeric price formats, booleans, inventory policy, image URL syntax, product grouping, missing titles and selected barcode and dimensional constraints. “No issues found” means these checks passed; it is not certification of an import.

Comparison matches variants by handle and option combination, not SKU alone. A changed identity is reported separately. Omitted rows do not prove Shopify will delete products. Omitted columns are different from included blank cells. Review both.

This version supports existing product price updates with two decimal places. It does not create products, update multi-location stock, fetch images, validate taxonomy or metafield definitions, convert currencies, or restore a complete store. Changing option values can recreate variant IDs; reimporting an old CSV cannot guarantee rollback.
